I went pretty far out of my way to make this page a love letter to the Powerpuff Girls. Can you spot the many references?(I'll list them below, for those interested!) Many people caught the cameo on the previous page, and I was so nostalgic drawing a Sister Claire-ified version of the PPG that I wanted to continue follow them a little longer.
Laura and I had fun imagining what their Sister Claire counterparts would be like. We imagine their dad ("the Professor") would be keeping his magikal little girls sequesterd away from society to keep them safe from Shards. As for his specialty, it would be experimenting and studying wards to make the strongest possible protections for his kids (that's what he's got falling out of his pockets!)
Of course, I imagine wards only do so much if your little kids have a habit of wandering far away from home on their adventures while you're invested in your research. Thank goodness for strange horned women in the woods with a soft spot for children.
PPST! Here are the PPG easter eggs true fans will catch:
In the original, they are all five years old. For this homage, I varied their ages to make Blossom the oldest (she's the commander and the leader, after all) and have Bubbles be the baby (because, of course.)
As my first really big cartoon obsession, the Powerpuff Girls is very dear to me and has continued to be a really huge impact on my art even as I've grown to find my own style. (Claire's design in particular was strongly influenced by the PPG aesthetic.) It felt really nostalgic and fun to have Claire "meet" her inspirations in a way. Kind of a thank you for all the creative motivation and inspiration over the many years. <3
